PSG begin talks with Messi
Barcelona said on Wednesday that the 34-year-old Messi would not continue playing for the club due to a lack of agreement
Paris St-Germain have begun talks with Lionel Messi's representatives after leaving Barcelona.
The BBC has been told that talks between Messi and PSG on Thursday showed that Barcelona would not honor their agreement.
Negotiations will continue on Saturday, during which time the deal will be finalized.
Barcelona said on Thursday that Messi would not be staying at the club.
They blamed the "financial crisis and the club's climate" on the player's 21-year career at Barcelona.
On Friday, club president Joan Laporta said that if Messi remained at Barcelona it would put the club in big trouble for 50 years.
Messi, 34, has been without a club since July 1, when his contract expired.
He has also agreed to extend his stay for the next five years with a reduction in wages - but the club will not be able to keep hold of the player.
If Messi returns to PSG, he will be joined by team-mates Di Maria, Barcelona's Neymar and Sergio Ramos.
